Description:

The Town of Petawawa is the largest community in Renfrew County with more than 17,000 residents. Located along the Ottawa River, the municipality is home to Canada's largest army base. Hosting festivals, events and programming year-round, Petawawa is an active community with recreation and culture programs for residents and visitors alike.

The Town of Petawawa is currently seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of Senior Planner. This is a full-time, on-site position.

The Senior Planner is responsible for the technical review and processing of land use planning applications from initial public inquiry, through to the development approval.

Description of Position:

  • Administers the processing of development applications and Town initiatives in accordance with applicable acts, by-laws and legislation
  • Provides planning advice and direction in accordance with policies and legislation to the general public, developers, staff and consultants
  • Administers development agreements including subdivision agreements and site plan agreements
  • Undertakes research, provides input and assists with project management
  • Drafts planning reports for a variety of applications and public notices, including maps, draft amendments and circulation lists, and attends meetings as required
  • Receives and answers inquiries providing general planning and zoning information
  • Completes zoning compliance reviews for site plans, real estate inquiries, building permits, sign permits and business registrations

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in urban, rural or regional land use planning or geography, or a related field
  • A minimum of three years of related practical experience, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Eligible and willing to achieve full membership in OPPI and CIP
Additional Information

Rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based on a 35-hour work week. The town offers a defined benefit pension and comprehensive benefits package.
