With our child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, now fully in force, the community embraces a step in reconciliation by reclaiming jurisdiction over the safety and well-being of our children, youth and families.

We are recruiting for a Prevention and Respite Services Worker. This is a full-time position.

Summary:

The Prevention and Respite Services Worker will be responsible for delivering culturally appropriate programing for children, youth and families with a holistic approach that promotes and supports a healthy family lifestyle. They will provide respite services for families experiencing new or challenging situations, with more ease through access to support, relief, and resources. 

This role requires respite coverage on a regularly scheduled, or potentially urgent basis, depending on the client needs and circumstances. They will provide support with integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment to ensure complete confidentially of information and will respect and safeguard the privacy entitlements of all members of the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement individual and group programs according to community needs
  • Provide opportunities for the enhancement and development of a positive cultural identity for children, youth, families, and communities served
  • Follow program guidelines, rules, and regulations and completes all necessary forms
  • Promote and advertise programs and activities
  • Assess family needs, and develop, and maintain a service plan for each family
  • Family support including homemaking and in-home support, housing, transportation, daycare and childcare, educational support
  • Facilitate access to medical and therapeutic supports, including in-home care supports
  • Facilitating access between children and family members
  • Develop a trusting relationship with families through regular visits and contact
  • Foster independence through a holistic and person-centered approach
  • Reinforce concepts and teach new skills to empower the families supported to thrive.
  • Ensure quality program delivery.
  • Participate on relevant boards, committees and community development projects
  • Liaise and network with community and other child and youth services
  • Participate in cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity training
Qualifications
  • Some post-secondary education in mental health or social work with a minimum of one year of successful experience working with children, youth and families, preferably in a First Nation setting
  • Willing to participate in additional training
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • A minimum of a valid class G driver’s license and access to a dependable vehicle
  • Provide a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Experience with computer operations and software programs, preferably Microsoft 365 Suite
  • An understanding of intergenerational violence and trauma in indigenous communities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of social service resources within the Renfrew County region
  • An understanding of challenging behaviours and how to navigate these for positive outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Can work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Possess tact, discretion and a professional level of confidentiality
  • Possess a high degree of initiative, self-motivation, reliable and thorough
  • Excellent assessment and evaluation skills
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills
