Scapa, a worldwide leading manufacturer of bonding and adhesive components and solutions for the healthcare, Industrial and transportation markets, is currently recruiting for a Senior Strategic Buyer. This is a full-time position.

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Senior Strategic Buyer will be responsible for a variety of functions, including but not limited to: purchase negotiations, supplier management, monitoring supplier specifications, information management, market analysis, sourcing and working capital management.


Cost Management:

  • Negotiate terms of purchase for portfolio of materials to ensure lowest total cost of acquisition and ownership
  • Establish and take ownership of relevant SCM key value chain performance Indicators to measure progress
  • Negotiate purchase of indirect goods and services as agreed with budget holders

Quality Management:

  • Contribute to the continuous quality improvement program through rigorous supplier management and development, including performance evaluation, management of non-conformance, and regular audits of strategic suppliers
  • Ensure specifications are agreed with suppliers for all raw materials and packaging items

Information Management:

  • Ensure data in SAP is accurate and up to date, including latest prices, terms and all relevant information record fields.
  • Analyze market and other factors to inform annual budgeting process, agree standard costs annually and report as required on variances
  • Complete in a timely and accurate fashion the Raw Material Price Index (RMPI) as part of monthly report

Working Capital:

  • In collaboration with Planning, optimize raw material stocks at levels that minimize risk of supply disruption
  • Reducing working capital
  • Taking assets off the balance sheet
  • Accelerating cash to cash cycles
  • Increasing inventory turns

Supplier Management:

  • Maintain good relationships with all key suppliers, representing Scapa professionally and maintaining highest levels of integrity at all times
  • Use appropriate levers to ensure suppliers continuously reduce cost and improve their product or service offering
  • Evaluate suppliers’ performance against agreed key performance requirements, address non-conformances and set targets for continuous improvement


  • Regularly research supply market for new suppliers, materials and technologies to meet current and future
  • Identify opportunities from supply market for profit improvement and/or risk reduction and determine business case for validation (NPVs)
  • Work closely with R&D to select preferred suppliers for all new product developments (NPDs)
  • Keep regular contact with other Scapa sites in Europe, North America and Asia to share best practice and coordinate approach to common suppliers
  • Manage RFI/RPF life cycle management for raw material, OEM products, services supply, IT systems
  • Manage technical RFI/RFP responses for the whole supply chain (eg. 3PL)
  • Manage commercial lifecycle management activities for supply chain, partners and suppliers management and contract agreements (MPSA, SLA, SOW)
  • A combination of post-secondary education in a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain elements (inventory management, planning execution and procurement life-cycle management)
  • MCIPS and/or related professional certification
  • Experience in material management, goods and services procurement and vendor management in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Experience conducting major negotiations
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint)
  • Critical thinking and negotiation skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail
  • SAP MRP experience is considered an asset
