The Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre (PMFRC) is a non-profit organization with the responsibility of addressing the needs of military families. We provide programs and services that serve, involve, and advocate for our military community, its members, and families, and address the unique military lifestyle challenges, resulting in an enhanced quality of life. The PMFRC envisions a community of strong, capable, resilient Canadian Armed Forces families.
We are recruiting for an Employment Coach. This is an indefinite, full-time contract. The schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm. Occasional evenings are required.
This position is responsible for the development and delivery of employment and career counselling services and supports to residents of Petawawa to Deux Rivières. The Employment Coach will work out of the Petawawa and Deep River offices on a regular rotational basis.
Responsibilities:
- Assess clients’ employment-related needs, identify skills and barriers, and support career decision-making and planning
- Provide supportive coaching
- Assist clients in the development of employment action plans and in achieving goals
- Facilitate the development of resumes, cover letters, and job applications
- Guide eligible clients through the application process to access other government programs
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the local labour market, employer expectations, and resources
- Orient clients to the job market and advise on employment and educational options
- Assess client needs and assist with addressing them through referrals, upskilling, and social services
- Develop employment-related tools, workshops, resources, and materials
- Attend relevant community events
- Maintain active relationships with local businesses, employers, organizations, and agencies
- Act as a community resource regarding employment-related information and supports
- Collect statistical data and document client information and activities

- Post-secondary education in social services, human resources, employment counselling, or a related field
- Knowledge of current labour market conditions and trends
- Experience in group facilitation and training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of Ontario labour market supply and demand, trends, and the economic outlook
- Knowledge of civilian and provincial agencies and other organizations that provide employment-related support services
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence, and maintain accurate client records
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills
- Preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual (English and French)
- Comfortable and proficient with IT tools, including Microsoft Office Suite, internet-based platforms, MS Teams, WebEx, and Zoom
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work-related travel, with appropriate driver’s insurance
- Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check, and able to obtain an enhanced reliability security clearance
Assets:
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive information and referral processes
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid
- Training or education in career development theories or practices
