The Renfrew County District School Board is currently recruiting for two General Maintenance Employees. These are full-time positions working 40 hours per week and may include afternoon shift work.

This role will assist tradespersons and perform additional indoor and outdoor maintenance duties.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in maintenance and/or construction of facilities.
• Assisting carpenters to repair windows, doors, floors, roofs and fences, framing, insulating and finishing walls or ceilings, and installing tile and baseboards.
• Assisting electricians to drill holes and run wiring.
• Assisting plumbers and gas technicians to install and insulate pipes, maintain, repair and clean sewers, drains, and boilers.
• Assisting the brick layer to lift and lay blocks and to mix and place concrete for sidewalks or steps.
• Erecting scaffolds, repairing metal equipment and property such as chairs, tables and door frame, cutting steel and making protective guards for windows.
• Cutting grass, trimming, tilling, brush removal and raking
• Performing routine operating activities such as sharpening blades, replacing belts, greasing and changing oil, mixing gas and re-spooling the trimmer, and other related duties

• Grade 12 education
• Completion of a one-year of post-secondary program in construction techniques, carpentry and renovation techniques, or another program related to construction and/or building maintenance
• Six months to one year of related experience
• Must possess a Class G driver’s license
• Able to operate cutters, saws, sanders, welding and other equipment
• Familiar with operating a truck and trailer and securing loads
• Able to organize and schedule work to meet deadlines
• Reliable and able to work independently
• Familiar with the current, applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations of Ontario
• Possess a complete knowledge of all WHMIS and MSDS for materials used

Upon hire, successful completion of relevant training such as WHMIS, First Aid, fall arrest, scaffolding, lift operation, chainsaw safety, play structure inspections, confined space and asbestos removal.
