Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.

We are recruiting for a Resource Teacher. This is a full-time, permanent position at 40 hours per week.

The Resource Teacher is responsible for supporting the integration and full inclusion of children with diverse needs. This role is responsible for providing high quality childcare within a safe and healthy environment and ensures compliance with relevant legislation, AOPFN policies and procedures, and the College of Early Childhood Educators standards of practice and code of ethics. The Resource Teacher also provides age-appropriate programming in a group setting that meets diverse needs and promotes optimum physical, emotional, social, cognitive and intellectual development of the children in care.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Create an environment conducive to the learning of Algonquin culture and language development and appropriate to the physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development of the children
  • Be receptive and sensitive to Algonquin language and cultural practices
  • Apply the Ministry of Education’s pedagogy under the CCEYA, “How Does Learning Happen?”

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., child and youth care, developmental services, special education, or early childhood education)
  • 1–2 years of experience supporting children with special needs and/or training in inclusive practices, individualized planning, or behaviour support.
  • Non-RECE candidates are considered for this role. Candidates without RECE registration must be eligible for Ministry Director Approval through the Child Care Licensing System (CCLS).
  • Vulnerable sector check provided annually
  • Proof of education, equivalency and/or work-related experience
  • Proof of membership with the College of Early Childhood Educators in good standing if applicable
  • Valid Standard First Aid certification including infant and child CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Submission of an up-to-date immunization record
  • A letter of good health from a physician

Preferred:

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Post-secondary education related to children with children with unique and diverse exceptionalities.

Interviews: Interviews will be conducted in-person or virtually by Teams Meeting. AOPFN has the right to shortlist for interview and assessment purposes of the five most qualified persons and typically establishes an eligibility list.
