Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.

We are currently recruiting a Manager of Lands, Estates and Membership. This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week, for a 12-month contract (maternity leave coverage.)

The Manager of Lands, Estates and Membership will deal with all projects and matters concerning, lands, estates and membership activities for the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. This includes providing direction and planning for all activities, program and services. This role will also provide direction and approval for all lands, estates and membership initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance and interpretations on land management, regulations, policies and practices to chief and council, departmental staff and members who use information to ensure compliance.
  • Being a frontline of contact for policy clarification on land management issues and referral services for department land systems.
  • Overseeing estate management.
  • Overseeing membership database program and issuing of certificates for Indian status in accordance with procedures.
  • Acting as a commissioner of affidavits.
  • Developing and implementing a GIS system.
  • Preparing and implementing departmental workplans, budgets and proposals for funding including completion and submission of necessary reports.
  • Providing leadership in staff development, training and supervision of staff.
  • Attending management and community meetings as directed.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in the field of business administration, legal or land use management or the completion of (or enrolled in) professional lands management certification program
  • Two years of management or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated community engagement experience
  • Willingness to travel
