Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off of Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.

We are currently recruiting for a Driver, Specialized Transport. This is a part-time position working 15 hours per week from February 2026 to June 2026.

The Driver is responsible for operating a 15-passenger vehicle to safely transport approved students residing in Pikwakanagan to and from designated local area educational institutions. This role will monitor the transportation of students and provide support to students while riding, loading, and unloading the vehicle to ensure the safety of all passengers. The Bus Driver will be responsible for conducting daily vehicle safety inspections, recording and reporting all issues and obeying all traffic laws.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Operates a 15-passenger vehicle.
  • Transports individuals with disabilities who require specialized training and equipment.
  • Safely transport approved students to and from designated local area educational institutions.
  • Reviews and understands the route(s), times, pick up-drop off locations.
  • Reviews and understands the riders at each stop as well as changes designed to accommodate community programming.
  • Assists with routing and practice runs.
  • Develops and implements a seating plan in collaboration with the student support personnel.

Qualifications
  • Secondary school diploma
  • A minimum of two years of experience driving passengers, preferably school-aged
  • A valid class G Ontario driver’s license
  • A minimum of four years of driving experience
  • Current and acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Current and acceptable vulnerable sector check
  • Training and certificates related to special needs are assets
