Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes east of Algonquin Park.
We are currently recruiting for Neyagada Wabandangaki Guardian Field Supervisors. There are three positions available; all are full-time, permanent positions working 35 hours per week.
About Neyagada Wabandangaki
Neyagada Wabandangaki Guardians have an important role to assert rights and title and to monitor and protect the terrestrial and cultural resources within the AOPFN traditional territory. Specifically, they monitor the impacts of resource use, accurately collect monitoring data, and report their activities to the AOPFN consultation department. Our mission is to steward the land and water by observing, recording and reporting on environmental impacts across our traditional territory.
About The Role
The Field Supervisor provides leadership to the Neyagada Wabandangaki guardian team. The position also involves coordinating and reporting using indigenous policies, AOPFN laws, and applicable federal and provincial regulations. The Field Supervisor must be able to prepare both detailed and high-level monitoring reports and maintain a high standard of accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision, coordination, and oversight of guardian team functions, services, projects, and initiatives.
- Assists, develops and implements work plans, priorities, and resource allocation to support program and community objectives.
- Supervises field program implementation, performance, reporting, and evaluation to ensure quality, accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement.

- Secondary school diploma or completion of a guardian program with 2+ years of related experience
- Environmental training and certification is an asset
- Valid class G driver’s licence and driver’s abstract
- Strong confidence in both field and office settings
- Ability to lead, coach and mentor other staff
- Cultural awareness and compliance training
- Willingness to travel as required for meetings, training, and community or external engagements
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the position including hiking long distances, packing heavy field equipment to remote sites
- Able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
- Ability to work irregular work hours, including some overtime and overnight trips or monitoring for nocturnal species
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and role-related training

The best-qualified candidate will be defined and determined to include the following: Provided the candidate meets the basic requirements of the position and is deemed qualified following the interview process, preference will be given to:
- the qualified indigenous person who is an Algonquin; then to,
- the qualified indigenous person; then to,
- the qualified non-indigenous candidate.
Interviews: Interviews will be conducted in-person or virtually by Teams Meeting. AOPFN has the right to shortlist for interview and assessment purposes of the five most qualified persons and typically establishes an eligibility list.
