Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes east of Algonquin Park.

We are currently recruiting for an Archaeology Coordinator. This is a full-time, permanent position working 35 hours perweek.

The Archaeology Coordinator is responsible for supporting project management and functions related to the AOPFN archaeology program. This includes internal and external archaeology projects, intake, reporting, budgeting, and coordinating and overseeing the Anishinabe Odjibikan archaeological field school.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and actioning requests from archaeology consultants or proponents (i.e., project notification, identifying the scope of participation, developing a budget and workplan, conducting community engagement, working directly with the proponent)
  • Procuring funding opportunities or other contracts and agreements
  • Providing seasonal supervision of the Anishinabe Odjibikan archaeological field school
  • Operating as a field technician or supervisor as required for Anishinabe Odjibikan school
  • Overseeing subcontracts and ensuring the deliverables are met
  • Maintaining field training and certifications, etc.
  • Tracking email correspondence
  • Timekeeping (timesheets, hours on site-project tracking, etc.)
  • Conducting archaeological assessment technical report reviews
  • Field liaison, monitoring, coordination and intake processing
  • File management, research and report writing

Qualifications
  • Completion of graduate studies programs related to anthropology or archaeology or completion of Anishinabe Odjibikan archaeological field school
  • Valid class G driver’s licence and driver’s abstract
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor other staff
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and role-related training

  • the qualified indigenous person; then to,
  • the qualified non-indigenous candidate.

Interviews: Interviews will be conducted in-person or virtually by Teams Meeting. AOPFN has the right to shortlist for interview and assessment purposes of the five most qualified persons and typically establishes an eligibility list.
