St. Francis Memorial Hospital is a 20-bed, fully accredited facility, offering medical, and complex continuing care. Special in‐patient services include palliative care, diabetes clinic, telemedicine and cardiac rehabilitation. A two-bed hospice is directly down the hall from our inpatient unit. The hospital has an extensive ambulatory care program with over 10,000 emergency visits per year and a six‐station satellite hemodialysis unit.

We are recruiting for a Cook. This is a part-time position. Weekend, shift work and call-in shifts are part of this role.

The Cook is responsible for planning and preparing food. Included in this role is organizing menu plans, accommodating dietary restrictions, maintaining appropriate inventory, placing food orders, and managing staff. This role will ensure a proper rotation of food to ensure the kitchen operates according to safe food handling procedures and hospital policies.

In addition to preparing food for our patients, the Cook also prepares food for business functions, staff special occasions and related events.

Qualifications
  • Cook Level 1 and 2 certifications from a recognized institution or equivalent certification
  • Restaurant and/or commercial kitchen experience as a cook
  • The ability to plan and co-ordinate work assignments for the kitchen team
  • Being professional and exercising judgment and initiative in preparing food, delegating duties and maintaining efficient standards of operation
  • Two years of work experience with healthcare setting experience being preferred
  • A commitment to learning 
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices in food preparation
  • Teamwork, initiative, adaptability and customer service skills
  • Verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform the duties within the physical demands of the work area
  • Food Service Worker certification

All new hires are required to obtain a vulnerable sector check valid from within the last six months, as well as their immunization status or immunity to a select group of communicable illnesses including COVID-19 as a pre-condition of employment.

Additional Information

Part time staff receive in-lieu benefits (health/dental/vacation) in addition to unionized pay scale and are eligible to join the hospital pension plan (HOOPP).
