The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year.
As a result of an upcoming maternity leave at RVH, we are hiring a temporary part-time Registered Nurse for our oncology-medical day care unit.
About The Role
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care and education to the patient and family receiving treatment or procedure. The perioperative program includes preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care. In conjunction with perioperative services, the Registered Nurse is a resource for the reprocessing program, especially in relation to perioperative services.
The cancer services program includes the administration of systemic therapy to cancer patients, as well as chemotherapy, biotherapy and immunotherapy teaching and support.
Duties include:
- Assumes scrub, circulating, recovery, day care and PAU duties
- Working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures; familiarity with ORNAC, TOHRCC and CCO standards
- Knowledgeable in sterilization and high-level disinfection and PIDAC best practice guidelines
- Knowledge of equipment used in the clinical areas
- Able to assist and direct the setup of equipment and clean up following procedures
- Setting up the operating room anesthesia machine
- Adhere to hospital policy and procedure when handling specimens
- Checking, restocking, and ordering supplies and equipment
- Computer skills.
- Provide leadership in the unit as necessary in the absence of the clinical manager

- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current certificate in BCLS
- Two years of clinical experience in acute care services (i.e., medical or surgical)
- Excellent health assessment skills
- Sound oral and written communication skills
- Sound organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of concentration in a busy working environment
- Ability to work independently and to perform duties in the physical demands of the work area
- de Souza provincial standardized chemotherapy and biotherapy certification
- Excellent IV skills and CVAD certification
- A minimum of two years of recent systemic therapy administration experience
- Sound knowledge of CNO Standards of Nursing Practice and CANO standards
- Demonstrate effective use of a computer for EHR documentation purposes
Assets:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- CAN oncology nursing certification
- Current membership in professional association (i.e., RNAO, CANO)
