The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year.
As a result of internal movement at RVH, we are hiring a temporary, part-time Nursing Coordinator with our administration department.
About The Role
The Nursing Coordinator assists in the supervision and direction of patient care, assumes a leadership role in crisis intervention and ensures proper use of hospital resources and beds. This role is accountable for all aspects of patient care and services within the hospital on shift.
Duties will include:
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate patient care, human resources, environment, equipment and supplies on hours of shifts.
- Analyse workload and plan staffing patterns for the coming shifts.
- Report all unusual occurrences, incidents and action taken to resolve them.
- Liaise with the multidisciplinary team, medical staff, department heads and others.
- Define and maintain clear lines of communication internally and with outside agencies and organizations.
- Responds to, problem solve and deescalate issues.
- Contribute actively to committees.
- Responsible for staffing all areas of hospital including satellite sites at Pembroke Regional Hospital and the Barry’s Bay dialysis units.
- Enact and lead all emergency response activities.
- Monitor and ensure a safe environment for staff.
- Support, implement and interpret the mission, vision, values and objectives of the hospital and the patient care services department.

- Strong clinical skills and experience in medical-surgical and emergency room settings
- Skills in stepdown ICU-ECG interpretation, critical care skill/, ventilation and BIPAP
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Demonstrated knowledge of emergency, acute, intensive care and related skills and judgement
- ACLS, C.P.R. and I.V. certifications
- Excellent communication, organizational and team leadership skills to effectively direct staff and co-ordinate the interdisciplinary plan of patient care and patient flow in the hospital
- Effective skills in the provision of family support integral to client-centered care
- Ability to work independently
- Effective use of a computer for EHR (EPIC) documentation purposes
- Adherence to legal and ethical standards
- Familiarity with a unionized setting and staffing practices is a strong asset
- Nursing leadership courses or evidence of continuing learning is an asset
