Join our dynamic and dedicated team as we continue to develop capacity within the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the greater unceded Algonquin territory. With our child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, now fully in force, the community embraces a step in reconciliation by reclaiming jurisdiction over the safety and well-being of our children, youth and families.
We are recruiting for a Director of Circle and Tribunal Administration. This is a full-time position with a hybrid working model.
Position Summary
The Director of Circle and Tribunal Administration works in coordination with all service area staff in the collection of required information to initiate the planning of circles and/or tribunals.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Fully develop the protocols and mechanisms that support the smooth facilitation of family circles, healing circles, and tribunals
- Maintain active rosters of circle facilitators and tribunal members
- Support the development and facilitation of training for facilitators and Nigig staff
- Ensuring appropriate communication is provided to clients and their families that supports the understanding of their rights and responsibilities
- Engage in outreach to Pikwakanagan and traditional territory to ensure decision-making protocols are accessible to all who fall under the jurisdiction of Nigig Nibi Ki-win
- Ensures all legal requirements are met, including accurate documentation and appropriate communication of any resulting decisions
- Follow the Seven Grandfather teachings
- Ensure circle and tribunal practices uphold the principles, values, and procedural requirements established through Algonquin law, relational accountability, and family-led decision-making
- Attend and participate in Algonquin Anishinaabe cultural training and activities
- Responsible for the creation of internal standard operating procedures

- Be a recognized member of the Pikwakanagan-Algonquin community
- 1-2 years of experience working with alternative mechanisms for dispute resolution and decision-making; related certifications are assets
- An understanding of Nigig Nibi Ki-win, family and healing circles regulation, and the grandparents tribunal regulation
- Understanding of the social work field, particularly with respect to child well-being
- 3-5 years of experience in a management and/or development role
- Indigenous knowledge
- Able to coordinate people and events
- Able to develop protocols and training materials
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred, or willingness to obtain
- Class G driver's licence, clear driver's abstract and access to a dependable vehicle
- Clear police record check including a vulnerable sector screening
- Experience working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis (FNIM) people in a community-based setting is an asset
