The Algonquins of Ontario (AOO) are on a journey of survival, rebuilding, and self-sufficiency – a journey of reconciliation. This journey began nearly 250 years ago when the first Algonquin Petition was submitted to the Crown in 1772. Today, the AOO are comprised of the 10 Algonquin communities.

We are recruiting for an Information Technologist & Media Technician. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of an extension. The hours of work are 35 per week, Monday to Thursday (8:30am-4:30pm) and Friday (8:30am-2:00pm).

The Information Technologist & Media Technician will primarily be responsible for providing internal information technology support, website maintenance and the organization’s media presence. This position will also provide technical advice and assistance to employees.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Provide IT and media support to the organization.
  • Troubleshoot IT and media issues.
  • Communicate IT and media courses of action to achieve organizational goals.
  • Liaise with colleagues in other organizations to share information and procure data sets.
  • Provide training in the use of GIS applications and information.
  • Lead, administer and coordinate implementation of new technology or software and business systems.
  • Facilitate the change process for staff migration to new software applications.
  • Set up and maintain hardware and software.
  • Support and update GIS and consultation software systems.
  • Manage, update and maintain the AOO Consultation Office website.
  • Create media accounts on various platforms as directed.
  • Create or acquire, organize, and manage geographical and spatial data sets from a variety of sources such as Global Positioning System (GPS) data, various project proponents, field observations, satellite images, and environmental monitoring data.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in information technology
  • 1-2 years of experience in an IT environment
  • Strong knowledge of browser compatibility problems for all platforms and major browser types
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Advanced skills with geographic-based computer applications and databases for land use planning such as: Geographic Information System (ESRI + ArcGIS), GeoWarehouse-Teranet, DRAPE, and Natural Resource Value Information System (NRVIS)
  • Strong knowledge of business processes and workflow
  • Strong project management skills
  • Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to travel to attend meetings, conferences and events and to conduct field work activity
  • Must be able to lift up to 20kg (44 lbs.)
  • A valid G class driver’s license
Additional Information

Salary range $66,440 - $74,770 per year ($36.51 - $41.08 per hour).
