We are recruiting for a Construction Labourer. This is a contract opportunity expected to start mid-April and end around October 30, 2026.
Under the direction of the Construction Supervisor, the Construction Labourer provides a variety of construction, maintenance and repair services related to county public works infrastructure with a focus on public safety and convenience.
Responsibilities
- Undertakes various tasks using equipment and vehicles according to qualification, work assignment and priorities.
- Exercises good judgement and initiative when performing and carrying out responsibilities.
- Provides flagging and traffic control on county construction and maintenance projects.
- Performs general labourer duties to assist with the reconstruction and repair to roads, culverts and bridges throughout the county including installing roadway signage, repair, replacing and installing fencing, guardrails and guideposts, trimming and removing trees and brush adjacent to roadways.
- May perform maintenance duties in the patrol garage and yard when required.
- Operates small equipment typically used on construction and maintenance projects such as portable pumps, chain saws and compactors.
- Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable provincial and municipal acts.
- Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the operational policies of the County of Renfrew.
- Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety.
- Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

- Equivalent to a high school diploma with job-related courses in the operation, maintenance and construction of roads.
- A minimum of six months of experience in road construction and/or municipal public works maintenance.
- G license is mandatory, DZ license is preferred.
- Completion of approved training courses including traffic control, chainsaw operations, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc. is an asset.
- Demonstrated excellent safety record.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the position including lift 50 lbs., traverse rough and rocky terrain, stand for long periods, etc.
- Flexibility in hours of work.
- Must provide personal CSA approved safety boots.
