Cataloguer-Interlibrary Loan Librarian

The Madawaska Valley Public Library serves a population of approximately 4,000, including the Township of Madawaska Valley (Barry's Bay, Combermere and Wilno), and is contracted to Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Township.

We are seeking a Cataloguer-Interlibrary Loan Librarian to assist the CEO, due to a retirement. This is a part-time position, 22-24 hours per week; some evenings and Saturdays.

The main duties of this position are to catalogue the library’s materials, manage the interlibrary loan service, and work the circulation desk; assume a supervisory role in the absence of the CEO.

Some responsibilities include:

• Cataloguing new items to the Insignia catalogue
• Preparing books for processing
• Requesting, lending, and tracking interlibrary loan
• Using the Canada Post shipping tool
• Assisting patrons with requests, including checking books in and out, and memberships
• Assisting patrons with technical use of library equipment and e-resources
• Opening and closing the library
• Acting in a supervisory role in the absence of the CEO-Head Librarian
• Assisting the CEO with business and bookkeeping duties

• Understanding of public library systems
• Knowledge of MARC records, the Dewey Decimal System, and the classification of materials
• Excellent computer skills, including use of databases, online research, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with a cataloguing system such as Insignia is an asset
• Familiarity with World Share interlibrary loan system is an asset
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
• A library technician diploma, EXCEL, or other training is an asset
• Previous cataloguing and/or library experience is an asset

This position required long periods of sitting at a computer completing administrative work, multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks, working with disruptions, lifting, walking up and down stairs, counting cash, accuracy, and attention to detail.

This position has regular shifts, and overtime is not generally required.

Compensation is per the township wage grid, and includes vacation pay and optional participation in OMERS.
