Indigenous Geographic is a company that specialize in producing documentary and feature films, e-learning tools, and commercial and corporate videos. We are experienced at capturing and documenting Indigenous oral history, working with Indigenous communities, residential school survivors, governments, corporations, and nonprofits.
We are seeking a strategic and creative Director of Communications to join our leadership team. This is a full-time position.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced communications professional with strong storytelling abilities, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for amplifying Indigenous voices and perspectives. This role offers the opportunity to shape and guide how our organization communicates across multiple platforms, ensuring consistency, impact, and alignment with our mission.
Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive communications strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Strengthen and maintain brand identity, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
- Craft compelling narratives that highlight our impact and initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, partners, and stakeholders.
- Act as spokesperson and provide media training to leadership.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of engaging content across web, social media, newsletters, and other channels.
- Guide the creative direction of multimedia content (video, graphics, publications) to ensure quality and alignment with the brand.
- Monitor analytics and engagement to refine and strengthen outreach efforts.
- Develop tools and strategies to ensure clear, consistent and effective communication.
- Lead and mentor communications team members.
- Collaborate closely with directors, project leads, and external partners.
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
- Manage multiple communications initiatives simultaneously.
- Review and edit content.

- Proven experience in communications leadership, public relations, or related fields.
- A strong background in strategic communications planning and brand management.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Proficiency with digital platforms, content management systems, and communications tools.
- Excellent collaboration, organizational, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Knowledge of visual communications, design, or video production is an asset.
