“Uniting the Pontiac” is the mission of the Pontiac Journal, an independent newspaper that has, since 1987, delivered bilingual news to every home, farm and business in the MRC Pontiac and the Municipality of Pontiac in West Quebec. The Journal is the only fully bilingual newspaper in the Pontiac, with both French and English reporters.

We are recruiting for a Graphic Designer-Production Manager. This contract position is approximately 20-25 hours per week. This position is available immediately.

Job Duties:

• Manage advertising (log sales and contracts) and work to meet targeted goals
• Communicate with sales representatives and clients directly
• Set-up and layout of the newspaper according to sales statistics for each issue
• Problem solving regarding prepress and production
• Design advertisements, special sections and promotional materials
• Update the website bi-weekly
• Attend in-person, twice-monthly staff meetings

• Strong understanding of Mac OS, Quark XPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro and InDesign
• Able to work under strict deadlines
• Open-minded and enjoy working as a team
• Able to work under supervision, be open to suggestions, etc.
• Bilingualism is an asset

Detailed training will be provided including ongoing collaboration with sales representative and our three affiliated newspapers.

Salary is competitive (based on experience and skills). Hours are flexible and most work can be done remotely. There is the possibility of additional contracts on extracurricular projects.
