“Uniting the Pontiac” is the mission of the Pontiac Journal, an independent, bi-weekly newspaper that has, since 1987, delivered bilingual news to every home, farm and business in the MRC Pontiac and the Municipality of Pontiac in West Quebec. The Journal is the only fully bilingual newspaper in the Pontiac, with both French and English reporters.
We are recruiting for a Managing Editor. Most of the work can be performed remotely aside from bi-weekly staff meetings and on-site event coverage.
The Managing Editor's duties include:
- Writing three to five articles per issue and the occasional editorial.
- Managing a team of freelance journalists.
- Fact-checking and copy-editing articles, photo-caps, and headlines.
- Determining the news layout in the paper.

- Journalistic training or experience is a strong asset.
- You own a vehicle, laptop computer and camera (phone).
- An interest in community news, events, local personalities, provincial and national news.
- Open-minded and enjoy working with others that may have different views.
- Bilingualism is preferred.
- Good to excellent writing skills in at least one language.
- Able to work under supervision, be open to suggestions, etc..
- Willing to travel in and around the MRC Pontiac.

Training is provided on the job, as much as is needed. This role has an ongoing collaboration with the publisher and our affiliated newspapers.
