Family & Children’s Services of Renfrew County is a multi-service agency committed to providing preventative, protective, and socially inclusive services and programming that empower and strengthen everyone.  Our agency commitments include moving forward with anti-oppressive practice, French-language services, and working alongside our indigenous communities.

We are currently recruiting for a Child and Family Protection Worker. This is a permanent, full-time position.

The Child and Family Protection Worker provides protection services that may include investigation, ongoing protection, or community-based roles. All Workers use a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach to promote child safety, well-being, and permanency while engaging families and communities as partners in planning.

Core Functions:

  • Receive and assess new referrals, conduct investigative interviews, complete initial safety and risk assessments, develop safety plans, analyze information, and decide on the next steps for case closure or transfer
  • Provide case management, ongoing safety and risk re-assessment, permanency planning, service coordination, family meetings, case conferences, network meetings, and court preparation and support
  • Perform both investigative and ongoing functions, responding flexibly to agency needs
  • Assess safety and risk, determine service responses, and collaborate with others
  • Complete investigations, case management, and service planning
  • Maintain accurate documentation
  • Coordinate services with internal teams, collateral agencies, and Indigenous partners
  • Exercise statutory authority, including emergency protection interventions
  • Engage in crisis intervention and emergency response
  • Ensure children and youth have a voice in decisions affecting them
  • Maintain complete, timely case records and outcome plans
  • Safeguard personal information
  • Participate in service reviews, audits, and quality assurance activities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of social work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of one year of experience in child welfare or social services
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse service and staff population
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and evidence-informed skills
  • Commitment to anti-oppression, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Mediation and conflict resolution skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems
  • Comfortable using digital tools and information management systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance
  • Understanding of Indigenous child welfare responsibilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of Part X privacy obligations
